Delhi’s Anti-Pollution Policy Fails to Reduce Vehicle Numbers - Class A

Delhi’s Anti-Pollution Policy Fails to Reduce Vehicle Numbers

Delhi removed many old cars and motorcycles to reduce air pollution. The government deregistered more than 6 million old vehicles. However, the total number of vehicles still increased.

In 2026, there were about 8.76 million vehicles in the city, more than the year before. This is because people keep buying new vehicles to replace old ones.

Many people prefer motorcycles and scooters because they are cheap and fast. Public transport is not good enough, so people choose to use private vehicles instead.
