The United Arab Emirates passport has climbed to second place in the 2026 Henley Passport Index, marking the highest position it has achieved in the two-decade history of the ranking. The UAE shares this position with Japan and South Korea, with citizens of these countries able to access 187 destinations without obtaining a visa beforehand.
The remarkable rise of the UAE passport reflects the nation’s expanding economic ties, strategic visa policies and growing network of bilateral and multilateral partnerships. These factors have strengthened the country’s global standing and improved travel freedom for its citizens.
The Henley Passport Index evaluates global mobility by ranking passports according to the number of destinations their holders can enter without a visa.
